Monitor Generation
You can generate a highly customized Monitor, with settings
such as specific content to monitor, time stamp
and connections. This allows you to generate versatile
Monitors which can connect to the Station on a
LAN and also across the Internet (when the Station
computer is not on the LAN), for instance.

Start
the Generate
New Monitor wizard.

Select
Custom.

Click
Next.
The Installation Specifics page appears.

If
you want to monitor one computer with this Monitor,
Click to select the On one computer option.
If you want to monitor more than one computer
with this Monitor, Click to select the On
several computers option.

Enter
a name for the Monitor you want to generate in
the Identifier field.

You
may enter a description for the Monitor you want
to generate in the Description field.

You
may change the suggested filename in the Monitor
Filename field.
NOTE:
The suggested Monitor Filename may differ from the one in the above illustration.

You
may change the suggested startup title in the
Startup Title field.
NOTE:
The startup title is the title displayed in the shortcut link of Windows®
explorer.

You
can set the time and date stamp set on the Monitor
file.

If you want the monitor to install
without displaying any notices, click to check
the Quiet Installation check box.

Click Next.
The Content to Monitor window appears.

Click to check (and uncheck) the
checkboxes corresponding to the content you want
this Monitor to monitor.
NOTE:
You can specify additional folders to monitor by checking the checkbox
directly below Monitor
Document Folders and entering the folder pathname
in the list.

Click Next.
The Include Instructions page appears.

If you want to include instructions
to be executed by the Monitor, click to check
the Include instructions check box and specify
the instructions. (see
instructions.)

Click Next,
The First Log Upload Location window appears.

In the Upload Method drop down list:
a Select
Network
Transfer if you want the Monitor to transfer
logs directly to the Station.
This is recommended
if the computer you want to monitor is on the
same network with the Station computer.
b Select FTP
Location if you want the Monitor to upload
logs to an FTP site.
·
Enter the full host name of the FTP host
(e.g. myftphost.com
or ftp.mysite.com) in the FTP
Host field.
NOTE: Do not specify additional text in the FTP Host field such as ftp://myftphost.com or myftphost.com/home.
·
If you want the logs to be stored in a
directory different from the default login directory,
specify the directory in the Directory
field.
·
Enter the login user name and password
for the remote FTP site in the User
name and Password
fields.
c Select Email(SMTP)
if you want the Monitor to email logs to an email
address.
·
Enter the SMTP (outgoing email) server,
the Monitor will connect to, in the SMTP
Server field.
·
Enter the account name (user ID) for the
server in the User
ID field.
·
Enter the password for the account in
the Password
field.
·
Enter the originating email address in
the From
field.
·
Enter the destination email address in
the To
field.
·
Enter the subject of the email in the
Subject field.
·
If the SMTP server does not use the default
SMTP port, click to check the Use
a different port (SMTP) checkbox, then enter
the port number.
·
If the SMTP server requires POP3 authentication
prior to relaying email, click to check the Authenticate with POP3 Server checkbox, then enter the POP3 server
in the POP3
server field. To specify a non-default POP3
port, click to check the checkbox on the right,
then enter the port number.

d Select
Local/Network
Folder if you want the Monitor to save logs
in a folder on the monitored computer or in a
folder on the network.
·
Enter the full path of the local or network
folder in the Address
field.
e Select None
if you don’t want the Monitor to upload or
transfer logs.

Click Next.
If you did not select
None
as the upload method at step 16, the Second Log Upload Location page appears,
otherwise skip to step 22.

You can select a second method
by which the Monitor will upload or transfer logs
if the first method fails. Select None
in the Upload Method drop down list if you want
the Monitor to use only the first log upload method.
NOTE: See step
16 for information
on the options you can choose in the Upload
Method drop down list.

Click Next.
If you did not select
None
as the upload method at step 18, the Third Log Upload Location page appears,
otherwise skip to step
22.

You can select a third method by
which the Monitor will upload or transfer logs
if the first and second methods fails. Select
None
in the Upload Method drop down list if you want
the Monitor to use only the first and second log
upload methods.
NOTE: See step 16 for information on the options you can choose in
the Upload
Method drop down list.

Click Next.
The Log Transfer Options page appears.

You can set a hotphrase for this
Monitor by checking the Hotphrase
checkbox and entering a short uncommon word.

If you set a hotphrase at step
22, you may set a Hot Folder by checking
the Hot
Folder checkbox and entering the full pathname
of the folder.
NOTE:
The Hotphrase is a word which when typed on the monitored computer causes
a window, prompting you to receive log reports,
to be displayed.
NOTE:
Specifying a Hot Folder causes
the transfer of log reports into the specified
folder, when the Hotphrase is typed on the monitored
computer, without any display.

You can set the logging interval
by checking the Logging
Interval checkbox and selecting the time interval
from the drop down list.

You can set the upload interval
by checking the Upload
Interval checkbox and selecting the time interval
from the drop down list.
NOTE:
The upload interval determines how often the monitor will transfer or upload
logs, while the logging interval determines how
often the logs are saved to the local hard disk
and possibly how lengthy a single log report will
be.

Click Next.
The Connection Options page appears.

If you do not want the Monitor
to accept manual connections from the station,
then click to uncheck Listen for connection from station. This
is also useful if another program on the monitored
computer uses the e-Surveiller port so as to avoid
conflicts.
NOTICE: If you want to install the Monitor on the Station
computer, make sure Listen
for connection from station is not checked.

You can select how the Monitor
connects to the Station via the Internet.
a If
the Station computer is connected to the Internet
on a static IP address, click to select Directly,
the station’s static IP address or host name is
and enter the IP address or host name of the station
computer.
b If
the station computer is not connected to the Internet
on a static IP address or if you are not sure,
click to select Seek
station on IRC & Gnutella networks. It
is recommended that you do not change the suggested
IRC and Gnutella hosts since it is the same hosts
the Station connects to.
c If
you do not want the Monitor to connect to the
Station via the Internet, click to select the
Do not
connect to station across the Internet option.
NOTE: If the
Station computer
or the computer you want to monitor is behind
a router or firewall, refer to routers
and firewalls.

If the computer you want to monitor
accesses the Internet via a proxy. Click to check
Use Proxy. Enter the HTTP proxy server and port and the FTP proxy
server and port in the HTTP
Proxy and the FTP
Proxy fields.
NOTE: See proxies for more information.

Click Next.
The Build Location & Update Settings page
appears.

You may change the suggested folder
in the Folder
field by clicking Browse
to select a different folder. You may specify
a new folder by clicking New
Folder to create one.

Specify the method by which the
Monitor will poll for configuration updates:
a If
you want the Monitor to check for configuration
updates on a file on the Internet, select Internet
Location in the Update
Method drop down list.
·
Enter the full URL with a filename e.g.
ftp://ftp.myhost.com/updates/monitor1.cfg or http://www.mywebsite.com/mysection/monitor1.cfg
in the Address field.
·
If the address is an FTP address, enter
the login user name and password for the FTP site
in the User name and Password
fields
b If
you want the Monitor to check for configuration
updates on a file on the monitored computer or
on the network, select Local/Network in the Update
Method drop down list.
·
Enter the full local or network pathname
and file. (e.g. c:\configs\monitor1.cfg or \\server\updates\monitor1.cfg)
in the Address
field.
·
If the file is a network file, make sure
the folder portion of the address is accessible
to the monitored computer.
You may do this by sharing the folder.
For example, if the address is \\server\updates\monitor1.cfg,
then make sure the \\server\updates\ folder is
shared.
c If
you don’t want the Monitor to check for configuration
updates, select None in the Update Method drop down list. The Monitor will only be able to update
its configuration if it connects to the Station.

Click Next.
The Monitor Configuration Summary page appears.

Review the monitor configuration.
You can use the scroll bar to scroll through the
list.

Click Finish.
You may have to wait
for a few minutes for the wizard to generate the
monitor.
The Monitor Successfully Generated page appears.

Click Open Folder.

The Windows® explorer
folder containing the generated Monitor installer
appears.

Transfer the generated Monitor
installer to the computer you want to monitor.
(You may do so by placing the Monitor installer
in a shared folder which is accessible from the
target computer OR copying it into a flash disk
or floppy disk and accessing the disk from the
target computer.)
NOTICE: If you checked the Listen for connection from station checkbox at step 27, DO NOT
run this Monitor installer on the station computer.
You
may return to the e-Surveiller Station to close
the Generate New Monitor wizard.

Run the Monitor installer on the
computer you want to monitor, to install the Monitor.
If you chose the On
several computers option at step 4,
repeat steps 38
and 39 on all the computers
you want to monitor.
You can delete the
Monitor installer after installation is complete.

Your setup is complete.
