Specifying Instructions

 

Instructions are commands to be carried out by the Monitor on the Monitored computer.

You can specify instructions when generating a monitor and you can update an active Monitor with new instructions.

 

Including Instructions when Generating a Monitor

 

At the Include Instructions page of the Generate New Monitor wizard:

 

 

    1     Make sure the Include Instructions check box is checked.

    2     Select an instruction in the drop down list.

  NOTE: See below for details on each instruction.

    3     Specify other parameters for the instructions.

    4     Click Add to add the instruction to the Instructions Included list.

    5     To add another instruction, repeat steps 2, 3 & 4.

    6     You can remove an added instruction by selecting the instruction in the Instructions Included list and clicking Remove.

    7     Click Next to continue with the Generate New Monitor wizard.

 

  NOTE: Instructions which are capable of damaging or significantly modifying the Monitored computer will not be accepted for inclusion.

 

DOS Command Instruction

Runs a DOS or console command, the output is logged and can be viewed in the e-Surveiller log viewer.

    1     Enter the DOS or console command in the first field.

    2     Click Add.

The instruction is added to the Instructions Included list.

 

 

 

Expire Instruction

This deactivates the monitor after a specified date and time.

    1     Specify the date and time in the on or after field.

    2     Click Add.

The instruction is added to the Instructions Included list.

 

  NOTE: The Specified Time and date is in GMT

 

 

 

Open Instruction

Runs a program or opens a folder, document or Internet site.

    1     Enter the program (e.g. notepad, calc), folder (e.g. c:\, c:\program files), document (e.g. c:\report.pdf) or Internet site (e.g. http://www.yahoo.com) in the first field.

    2     In the parameters field enter any parameters you want to pass to the program. This is optional

    3     You can select from the second drop down list if you want the program, folder, document or Internet site to be minimized, displayed normally or completely hidden.

    4     Click Add.

The instruction is added to the Instructions Included list.

 

      NOTE: The Program, Folder, Document or Internet Site will open on the Monitored Computer. It will not appear on the Station computer.

 

 

 

Suspend Instruction

This suspends monitoring activity till the next time the monitored computer is restarted.

There are no additional parameters to specify.

    1     Click Add

The instruction is added to the Instructions Included list.

 

 

 

Upload Instruction

Uploads a file on the Monitored computer to an Internet FTP site.

    1     Enter the full path name of the file to be uploaded (e.g. c:\mydocument.doc) in the File field.

    2     Enter the full host name of the FTP host (e.g. myftphost.com or ftp.mysite.com) in the FTP Host field.

 

  NOTE: Do not specify additional text in the FTP Host field such as ftp://myftphost.com or myftphost.com/home.

 

    3     If you would like to store the uploaded file in a directory different from the default login directory, specify the directory in the Directory field.

    4     Enter the login user name and password for the remote FTP site in the User name and Password fields.

    5     Click Add.

The instruction is added to the Instructions Included list.
